From Consumers to Owners: Using Meta-design Environments to Motivate Changes in Energy Consumption

چکیده
Unsustainable energy consumption is a systemic problem facing society that requires technical and social innovations and changes. We argue for understanding and using end-user developments as not just another design principle but as a socio-technical intervention to help people make better decisions as they work to solve such systemic problems. We further explore two established EUD frameworks, Meta-Design and Cultures of Participation, to design systems for one such systemic problem: the energy domain. We present the draft for a system that incorporates principles from these frameworks to inform, motivate, and involve end-users in reducing their energy

Finding the Best Orientation of the Educational Buildings in Hot Arid Regions in Iran, in order to Achieve the Optimum Annual Energy Consumption, Using Computer Simulation (Case Study: a Double Class School in Zahedan)
School buildings forming a large part of public buildings are among the most important consumers of energy in Iran. Given the existing construction conditions, these buildings seem to have considerable potential for energy efficiency if the construction and design methods are reformed. Therefore, numerous researchers have analyzed geometrical factors influencing energy consumption in buildings,...
متن کاملRegional climate changes and their effects on monthly energy consumption in buildings in Iran
This present research work was carried out to evaluate the energy consumption in a typical Iranian building based on the forecast of climatic variables. Thus, the LARS-WG model was validated for some northwest stations of Iran, including Tabriz, Ardebil, Oromieh, Kermanshah, Hamedan, Sannandaj, Qazvin, and Zanjan. The average monthly outdoor temperature was forecasted from 2011 to 2100. The rel...
متن کاملComparative Study on the Influence of Window To Wall Ratio on Energy Consumption and Ventilation Performance in Office Building of Temperate Humid Climate: a Case Study in Rash
The natural ventilation and the energy consumption are very important characteristics in buildings. Representation of the patterns for better natural ventilation performance versus lower increase in energy consumption is significant and useful. This study is simulating an office building in the temperate and humid climate of Rasht in Iran, and calculated the annual ventilation and the energy co...
متن کاملProviding Design Strategies for Ventilation System in Treatment Environments (Proposed Sample: Hybrid Ventilation System in Hospitals)
One of basic principles in designing treatment environments is to design air conditioning/ventilation system proportionate to environment. Essentially, appropriate air conditioner in treatment spaces must bear the following capabilities: providing healthy and clean air, reducing the concentration of pollutants produced in the atmosphere, emission of pollutants and impeding their spread in exter...

Background: Hospitals as major energy consumers can manage their energy consumption by intelligent interventions. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the amount of energy consumption of Water, Electricity, and Gas, and their association with functional indicators in teaching hospitals of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences from 2009 to 2011. Methods: The present study was descriptive ...
